Macutex – Queensland Department of Education asset life cycle assessments
The Queensland Department of Education (DET), in a bid to move away from the traditional approach of identifying reactive maintenance issues over the immediate and short term to a more thorough facilities Asset Life Cycle Assessment (ALCA). Macutex was engaged to assist in the development of innovative data capture solutions and interactive dashboard reporting solutions, to facilitate improved long-term strategic planning and budget allocation strategies at individual school, regional and department level. Macutex assessed more than 20,000 buildings and reported over a million separate facilities. Innovative spatial mapping and contract management dashboards were utilised to manage scheduling, create time efficiencies and provide real-time progress reporting.
Flinders University and ISS Facility Services – Transition to daytime cleaning project
Flinders University and its cleaning provider ISS devised a new cleaning model to improve and increase customer service and interaction between staff/students cleaners. Innovative transitions from the cleaning model and structure have been made, changing it from night (4.30am to 8.30am) to daytime (6am to 10am) cleaning, with minimised impact to campus operations while ensuring standards were maintained. Results from the trial revealed a 100 percent retention of current cleaning staff, a cost saving of approximately $93,000 due to the removal of penalty rates, better communication between cleaners, staff and students, cleaners being recognisable in uniform, and a pleasant and friendlier working environment for all.
Liftango/University of Newcastle – University rideshare
The University of Newcastle partnered with a local start-up, Liftango Rideshare, to help solve its parking and congestion problems. It provides an alternative form of transport for staff and students and has helped to meet both organisations’ sustainability goals. Liftango produced an innovative rideshare app that was exclusive to the university and utilises geospatial technologies that increase safety and allow for the system to track when carpool trips are actioned. The data is passed back in real time to the university. Liftango was tasked to: reduce parking pressures, promote sustainability, allow accurate reporting on carbon saved, and safely provide a tech solution to staff and students.
RMIT Property Services – Advanced 40-year life cycle model for higher education – a new approach to asset management
RMIT Property Services life cycle analysis provides a strategic and planned approach to the management of physical assets that considers all associated costs of the operation of assets, including: reactive, planned maintenance, faults and repairs, and acquisition and replacement.
