Global operations management consultancy DuPont Sustainable Solutions has announced the creation of a new suite of training methodologies aimed at helping companies address technical skill shortages in the proper handling of hazardous materials.

Acccording to Andrew Wilson, Australia-based solutions architect for DuPont Sustainable Solutions: “In Australia today, the capacity and capability to manage large hazardous assets, both ageing and new, is constrained. Operational risk management is becoming ever more critical, especially in light of major industrial incidents across the globe where human error was shown to be a main contributing factor. Ammonia leaks from Orica Plant at Kooragang Island, the Pike River Mine Disaster in New Zealand and the Hazelwood Mine Fire are some recent examples.”

To address this, DuPont Sustainable Solutions has announced the creation of a structured learning experience that has been proven to develop employee skills so they can manage hazardous processes safely. This includes methodologies that can be scaled to meet the needs of the company from a simple problem-based training to integrated process safety management learning and development. The training can be customised to develop skills in specific areas, as needed. Further, the blended learning format – a modular curriculum, instructor-led training and e-learning – leverages applied learning, allowing companies to maximise uptake and retention.

“A mixture of classroom-based, e-learning and ‘on the job’ coaching by experienced consultants enables effective learning and development outcomes even in remote locations,” says Wilson. “The use of adult learning techniques makes the highly practical training immediately applicable in the Australian and New Zealand work environment.”

DuPont Sustainable Solutions is one of 12 DuPont businesses. Bringing customers the benefits of an integrated global consulting services and process technology enterprise, it applies DuPont’s real-world experience, history of innovation, problem-solving success, and strong brands to help organisations transform their workplaces and work cultures to become safer, more efficient and more environmentally sustainable.
