Led by the John Holland Group, the New South Wales Government’s $309 million redevelopment of Penrith Stadium will support the region’s passion for sports and deliver approximately 500 jobs in the construction phase and an additional 650 jobs during operation.
The transformation of Penrith Stadium into an exciting multi-purpose hub fit for sport, recreation and entertainment events will earn the facility the moniker of one of Australia’s premium suburban stadiums. John Holland boasts extensive experience delivering large construction projects such as Allianz Stadium.
John Holland executive general manager for building Joe Kokai says the company is honoured to present the community with a premium sports and entertainment facility that will also facilitate employment opportunities.
“We know how much facilities like these mean to the community and we can’t wait to deliver this fantastic venue for Western Sydney,” he says. “The Penrith Stadium redevelopment will provide job opportunities and create careers for people in construction.”
Patrons will delight in the stadium’s welcoming and inclusive atmosphere and impressive line-up of entertainment and sporting events, the latter nurturing Western Sydney’s appreciation for rugby league, rugby union and football.
Music aficionados in the community are promised an increase in concerts, as the new stadium will host up to 10 concerts a year with a capacity of 30,000. Additionally, smaller spaces will host private events including meetings, conferences and catered functions. The stadium is predicted to be ready for operation in 2027.
A design prioritising inclusivity and convenience
Populous and Tyrrell Studio designed Penrith Stadium with accessibility and inclusivity in mind. They tripled the amount of wheelchair accessible seating, doubled the number of female bathrooms and changerooms and included sophisticated wayfinding and security and technology. Patrons may be spared waiting in long queues as more food and beverage outlets will be available.
