Social enterprise creates jobs through sustainable waste management
A new e-waste processing and training facility at Bendigo’s Radius Environmental Services will provide meaningful employment opportunities for people living with a disability. Radius Environmental Services is a social enterprise that specialises in sustainable waste management and provides training and employment opportunities for people living with a disability.
Not unlike many developed and developing countries around the world, electronic waste from computers, phones and other electronic devices is the fastest growing waste stream in Australia. The Bendigo facility will aim to keep up to 160 tonnes of e-waste out of the local landfill each year and create 12 job opportunities for people with a disability within the first 12 months.
The facility was recently launched in the presence of Minister for Employment and local Labor MP Jacinta Allan. The Victorian Government has provided $45,000 in funding towards the purchasing and installation of equipment to keep e-waste out of the Bendigo landfill.
