As ‘Global Goals partner’, Honeywell will help the Opera House meet its sustainability commitments.
Honeywell has committed to help the Opera House become climate positive by 2023, collaborate on an event to discuss how engineers are contributing to positive social and environmental change, and launch a program to support First Nations tertiary graduates with their chosen professions.
The Opera House was the first Australian arts institution to commit to the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals, which aim to address 17 of the world’s most urgent needs – such as affordable and clean energy, sustainable cities and communities, and responsible consumption and production.
Honeywell has already helped the Sydney institution reduce its water consumption by 30 percent, through improved monitoring, and reduce its energy consumption by 20 percent through its building management system.
The smart building technology firm has committed to achieving carbon neutrality in its operations and facilities by 2035.
“As a symbol of modern Australia, the Opera House has the power to inspire and shape positive change,” says NSW Arts Minister Don Harwin. “This partnership is a great example of the arts, business and government coming together to achieve common goals.”
The Opera House is seeking partners to share knowledge, expertise, technology and funds to inspire positive change. ‘Partnership for the Goals’ is UN Global Goal number 17, encouraging organisations to work together and encourage others to collaborate.
“We are thrilled to welcome Honeywell as our first Global Goals partner,” says Sydney Opera House CEO Louise Herron AM.
“Achieving these goals requires a huge collaborative effort. As we approach the Opera House’s 50th anniversary in 2023, we are looking for more ways to work with organisations that share our vision for positive social and environmental change. By enabling a range of significant projects, this partnership will make an important contribution,” adds Herron.
