The first commercial real estate services firm in Australia to be certified against the Australian Government’s National Carbon Offset Standard, real estate services firm, CBRE’s Australian operations have been officially certified as carbon neutral. CBRE was officially certified in front of more than 500 commercial property executives attending the Sydney Market Outlook event at the Westin Hotel in Sydney today.
To achieve carbon neutral certification CBRE reduced its emissions across electricity use, air travel, fuel consumption, paper use, base building emissions and office waste. The company also introduced new IT equipment and protocols, which reduced energy consumption and paper usage. Greater staff awareness and energy efficiency measures in its premises also contributed to emissions reductions.
“CBRE’s certification through Low Carbon Australia’s voluntary Carbon Neutral Program reflects the organisation’s wholehearted commitment to sustainability and acts as a positive demonstration of what’s achievable for the industry and for its clients,” Meg McDonald, Low Carbon Australia CEO, comments.
The Carbon Neutral Program is a voluntary program that allows Australian businesses to measure, reduce and offset greenhouse gas emissions associated with business operations or products. The program is administered by Low Carbon Australia on behalf of the Department of Climate Change and Energy Efficiency.
