The Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA) has announced that Eumemmerring Business Park has set a new precedent in industrial sustainability, becoming the first industrial project certified under the Green Star Buildings tool.
Goodman Group oversaw the construction of the 5 Star Green Star Buildings project that embraced sustainable building practices in processes of refurbishment and preservation. Located in Victoria, Eumemmerring Business Park’s construction involved retaining two existing buildings and protecting 10 eucalyptus trees estimated to be more than100 years old.
GBCA CEO Davina Rooney says Eumemmerring Business Park should serve as inspiration to numerous industries for the possibilities that come with prioritising sustainability.
“As the first industrial project to be certified under Green Star Buildings, it’s not just meeting expectations, it’s redefining them,” says Rooney.
Fully electric and carbon efficient
In addition to being fully electric, Eumemmerring Business Park has achieved more than a 15 percent reduction in upfront carbon and a 30 percent reduction in whole of life carbon. The precinct’s zealous use of solar and infrastructure to accommodate 38 chargers in the future contributed to impressive carbon-efficiency feats.
Features such as natural light, increased airflow and generous outdoor spaces were included in the delivery of the project to account for the health and wellbeing of users of the space.
Future-proofing buildings
In honouring the Climate Positive Pathway and suggestions from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), Green Star Buildings advocates for the development of resilient and future-proof buildings that aim high in regards to innovation and environmental mindfulness.
Green Star encourages building developers, architects and the like to design highly efficient and fossil-fuel-free spaces built with lower carbon materials and powered by renewables.
The Green Star Building Tool is a pillar of guidance for those in the built world eager to surpass Australian sustainability standards.
