Northline’s infrastructure investment continues with new distribution centre
Northline, one of Australia’s largest privately-owned logistics operations, is continuing its infrastructure investment with a new $3million transport and logistics facility to be built in Townsville.
The new Townsville facility follows similar developments in new Northline facilities, in Sydney, Brisbane and most recently Darwin to strengthen its national presence and support its growth.
It brings the investment in new Northline transport and logistics facilities to over $75 million in just over two years.
Work on the new Townsville facility has now commenced and on completion in late December, this will create 2,000 sq m of space under roof on a nearly 5,000 sq m site.
In proximity to the Bruce Highway, the new facility’s location provides greater accessibility and room for further growth as the company’s east coast operations expand.
Northline chief executive Craige Whitton said the new facility, Northline’s fourth new Australian distribution centre in just over two years, marked a commitment to continually enhance its offering and service to its customers.
“We’ll now have purpose built facilities along the east coast from Melbourne to Townsville, to provide both greater efficiency and capacity for our customers” said Mr Whitton.
“Townsville has been part of the Northline distribution network for more than 12 years and the company’s investment represents a vote of confidence in the local economy and supports local jobs.”
The new Townsville facility is being facilitated by industrial developer Gibb Group, with Development Manager Matthew Thiselton saying they were pleased to be extending their relationship with Northline having just completed their new Darwin facility.
“Completing Darwin was a great team effort”, said Mr Thisleton.
“On a project of that size you really get to know each other well in delivering something that critical for a customer, so we certainly jumped at the opportunity to assist Northline in Townsville when asked”.
“While this project builds on our relationship with Northline it also continues to build our presence in Townsville, having now invested more than $15m into existing assets in the region and some $17m in new projects. Townsville has a very diversified GDP, a well-established freight network, and like Northline we also believe in the long-term growth prospects of the region”.
Incorporated in 1983, Northline is a privately owned and managed Australian company specialising in four major areas of service provision: road and rail freight management services; warehousing and distribution; global freight forwarding and mining, construction, oil & gas logistics.
With 13 branches across the nation, the company’s extensive operation employs a diverse team of professional staff as well as dedicated full-time pick up and delivery subcontractor partners in all mainland capitals and many key regional centres.
